Ep. 124 Heal Yourself from the Pain of Childhood Trauma with Liz Mullinar of Heal For Life

Today I’m sitting with Liz Mullinar, a survivor of childhood trauma, trauma counsellor, and the founder of Heal For Life Foundation which has provided trauma recovery programs for over 20 years. Liz latest book is a step-by-step guide called HEAL FOR LIFE: How to Heal Yourself from the Pain of Childhood Trauma based on the Heal For Life model that has helped over 8,500 people self-heal from trauma. It demonstrates how to transform painful trauma memories and emotional triggers into permanent healing. 100% of the book’s proceeds go back to Heal for Life to pay for survivors to attend programs!

  • Impact of trauma on brain and nervous system

  • Importance of safety for healing and impact of shame, how do we acquire shame and how do we heal from it?

  • How to overcome trauma memories permanently - Liz gives us examples from her own life

Ep. 122 Functional Somatic Syndrome, Women’s Health, & Community Herbalism with Anja Robinson

Today we are speaking with Anja Robinson, Clinical Herbalist, Functional Nutritionist, Women’s Integrative Health Educator and founder of Poppy Herbals—an Herbal Elixir Bar and Apothecary in Ashland, OR. She’s also my co-facilitator for our upcoming Herbal Anatomy Series at Hawthorn Institute! In this episode, we’re talking about functional somatic syndrome (FSS) and the power of community health & herbalism in addressing complex health issues.

FSS has been around for thousands of years and various terminology has been used to describe it, including hysteria, somatoform disorders, and medically unexplained symptoms. FSS highlights the inefficacy of the conventional medical system in addressing root causes, the undeniable mind-body connection, the startling rates of trauma (esp in women) impacting health, and the lack of community wellness and support.

Together, Anja and I explore top ways to support those who have experienced FSS (many of us), the importance of community, and how to begin addressing the underlying issues related to so many unexplained or complex symptoms and health challenges.

Show Notes

In this episode, we discuss:

  • How Anja started down her path into herbalism, Ayurveda, nutrition and women’s health

  • The normalization of dis-ease and imbalance in our medical system

  • How active listening is an indispensable tool as a practitioner and part of the medicine

  • The most common underlying factors of complex chronic health challenges

  • What is functional somatic syndrome/somatic symptom disorder and how it relates to the prevalence of chronic health challenges, especially for women

  • What common disorders and health challenges fall under the umbrella of somatic syndrome, including PMS, chronic fatigue, chronic pain

  • Why Anja appreciates functional medicine and what some of the differences are between functional approach and conventional approach

  • Why addressing the gut and blood sugar regulation are the first places to address when dealing with a complex health challenge or somatic syndrome

  • How Anja uses elimination diets as a first line approach to reduce inflammation, support immune system, and identify triggers - Anja lists common foods to avoid

  • Community herbalism and ways women can come together to support their health

  • How women have increased exposure to toxins in daily life that have an impact on our detoxification system and overall health

  • The 3 pillars of health for women: diet + lifestyle; mind-body medicine; community

  • Anja offers a few ways of how to build community and make community medicine

  • Anja shares her favorite herbs + foods for supporting somatic syndrome and how to incorporate them as medicine

  • One of Anja’s favorite practices: Ayurvedic abhyanga aka herbal body oiling for bringing medicine in a different way while also supporting natural detox, grounding, and can work more quickly than taking nervines internally

Ep. 118 Hope, Spiralic Healing, & Energy Medicine for Chronic Illness with Cari Nadeau

In the intro, I share a personal check-in and insights, astral influences this month so far, and how to support ourselves by tending to our energetic ecologies and bodies.

So much that manifests as physical symptoms or ailments have their origins in the energy body. All ancient healing traditions include energy medicine in one form or another, in my experience, when there is chronic illness present - we MUST look to its energetic influences.

In this episode, we’re speaking with Cari Nadeau, a Certified EFT Practitioner and a Certified Emotion Code Practitioner. Cari shares how she went from bedridden from Lyme disease to thriving energy medicine practitioner. We talk about Cari’s journey with psychiatric medication, withdrawal from psychiatric medication, major depression and top resources Cari found for mental health support. We discuss how to remove trapped emotions, and the “masterpiece combo” that Cari uses to move through big negative patterns or stuck energies.

Cari also shares the top beliefs that Cari identified were holding her back and keeping her sick, her spiralic healing journey, how it was “ugly,” what her “relapses” looked like, and what she did to move thru them. In the end, we share Cari’s favorite resources and books to get people started with energy healing, including a free gift - link is in the shownotes!

Photo by Melissa Schmidt @icarianphotography on Instagram

Photo by Melissa Schmidt @icarianphotography on Instagram

This is a special episode that is dear to my heart! It’s part of a series of interviews with highlighted healers - I’m speaking with participants from my Chronic to Creatrix program!

Happy Full Moon in Cancer! In the intro, I speak about the significance of this day and cosmic alignment of the energy of Mother. These are intense times and we’re feeling all the feels - I open up about the anniversary of my mom’s death & my commitment to helping the helpers. Plus, you’ll hear about the Chronic to Creatrix Akashic Experience - a program for holistic healers, practitioners, coaches & helpers.

In this episode, we’re speaking with Chelsea Feldman, a mama, a classroom educator, a budding herbalist, an urban homesteader, and a photographer who is guided by earth spirit medicine. She lives in the California Bay Area with her husband and two amazing boys.

In this conversation, you’ll hear about Chelsea’s experience of becoming a mother and how that has been a critical part of her spiritual evolution as well as collapse of her health that resulted in years of chronic health challenges and revelations. You’ll hear about how Chelsea went from run down mama with complete lack of resilience to thriving Creatrix of her health + life.

Chelsea shares how meditation opened up a channel to Spirit and working with Akashic Records has supported her in metabolizing grief. Chelsea shares potent words of advice for other busy mamas dealing with chronic challenges and what has been foundational for her healing process.

Ep. 112 Honoring the Medicine of Hibernation & Surrendering to Changing Tides with Linda García aka Luz Warrior

In this episode, we’re speaking with Linda García aka Luz Warrior on what it looks like to honor the medicine of hibernation and surrender to the changing tides of life... and doing so in a world that pushes against it. Linda tells us the story behind “Luz Warrior” and the Let There Be Luz podcast, and her struggles and trauma in earlier years. Linda shares how she transitioned from commercial storytelling in film, tv and radio to storytelling for wellness, her process of coming out of the “spiritual closet” and making conscious development teachings more accessible to her community.

Linda also talks about the biggest challenges that she has faced in her transition and what following the intuitive path looks like for her, plus the dragons she has slayed along the way in stepping into her truth and breaking through victim mentality.

Linda gives so much beautiful advice for those of us in the contraction phase in our path, and how to honor the ebbs just as much as the flows.

As the final interview of 2019 and this decade, I couldn’t have imagined a better conversation to close out the energy of this past decade and honor where it is that we are going together as a collective - toward a way of living that honors our rhythms and cycles on a massive scale.

THANK YOU for being YOU and your contribution to your own growth + supporting the greater global community. ♥️

Laural shares how 911 was a turning point for Laural in rekindling her life purpose: to help people understand each other better.

We discuss the collective wounds that we all face together, and the important concept of the “world tree” or “tree of life” in our individual and collective healing work. Laural talks about the intrinsic nature of Trees and the multitude of Gifts of ancient wisdom and knowledge that trees have imparted to us - connecting us to the stars, astrology, astronomy, calendar + time, math and more.

Laural takes us on a journey tracing the fascinating etymology and original meaning of the word God, and the connection to trees within world religions starting in Mesopotamia 3500 BCE with an original wind god.

She shares the biggest revelations that she has had in her incredible life experience and how our ancestral lineage holds a key to our soul path and purpose. You’ll also hear about her upcoming workshop offerings such as the Tree Spirit Wisdom Weekend Intensive based off her beautiful Tree Spirit tarot - Connecting us with the wisdom and spirit of trees, and Exploring the archetypal stories of 78 trees.
