#UNFILTERED Moon Musings :: New Moon In Sagittarius :: Adapting to Change, Pacing Ourselves, Twerking as Medicine
Happy new moon! Venessa and Megan talk about how this new moon in Sagittarius houses a beautiful energy to reflect on recent themes before Eclipse season arrives, invitations for working with our root chakra, and adapting to change. We discuss the importance of working with our bodies and mining our thoughts, and ways to support our internal fires so we don’t burn out.
We share some of what we’ve been working on to support our root and allow more flow (i.e. are you holding your pee too?) such as honoring our body’s rhythms, self massage and twerking as medicine. We explore some of our fave moistening and circulatory foods & herbs to support the flow of that heat related to weakened or imbalanced Sagittarius fire.

The last New Moon before Eclipse season begins - This is our chance to revisit themes, lessons, and patterns we have been working with since the last Eclipse back in July 2019.

Flight Fight or Freeze response, and how Venessa learned she’s prone to the freeze response
The importance of knowing your stress response and patterns to deal with stress in creating a plan and an environment that is supportive
Paying attention to and assessing our automatic thoughts is a good first place to start - catching yourself when you have a “negative” thought and notice what kind of response it induces in your body
Assessing the ecology of our thoughts and our body-mind (bidirectional) connection is one of the critical things we can do to support our health
Somatic experiencing and therapies and their use in releasing thoughts, beliefs, traumas, and energies
How Megan is working on NOT holding her pee, massaging her abdomen, and trauma work for her root chakra
How Venessa is working with her left hip issues and going back to her roots of dancing as medicine at hip hop class
Organs related to Sagittarius: hips, thighs, sacrum
How to soften our rigidity to tap into our inner healer
Practices we’re focusing on this moon: MOVEMENT Dance, moving body in rhythm; twerking as medicine “twerk werk”, rolling on the floor, hip openers, hip shaking, self massage and abhyanga
How you can get burned if you don’t pace yourself
How self massage is a process of courtship
How we are programmed to not like what we have, and the essential practice of DE-programming through sensual connection and listening to our bodies
What Megan believes is one of the most critical steps to healing (and the first place to start)
Herbs and foods Megan and Venessa use to support the fire element in our bodies, whether it’s modulation of inflammation or boosting digestion
Remedies for Imbalanced and/or Weakened Sagittarius: Anti-inflammatories and moistening herbs

Ep. 103 Thus Spoke The Plant :: Exploring Plant Cognition & The “Real Plant Revolution” with Monica Gagliano
>> SUBSCRIBE :: Sign up for newsletter to receive updates on upcoming programs and events
*Due to Monica’s location in nature at her home in Australia, the internet connection gets disrupted at certain points in the conversation - while we did our best to make the audio sound better at certain points, we apologize for the quality and encourage you to continue listening as she has so many amazing things to say.
In her book Thus Spoke The Plant, a “phytobiography”– or a collection of stories written in partnership with a plant –research scientist Monica Gagliano reveals the dynamic role plants play in genuine first-hand accounts from her research into plant communication and cognition. By transcending the view of plants as the objects of scientific materialism, Gagliano encourages us to rethink plants as people–beings with subjectivity, consciousness, and volition, and hence having the capacity for their own perspectives and voices.
Monica’s research aims at expanding our perception of animals, plants and more generally Nature. In the process of learning how to do this, Monica has pioneered the brand-new research field of plant bioacoustics and extended the concept of cognition to plants, re-igniting the discourse on plant subjectivity, sentience and ethical standing.
In this interview, Monica shares about how an ethical crisis was the seed that changed the course of Monica’s career and led to her working with plants and writing her book. We talk about the collective “plant blindness” and Monica shares how resistant and scared she was to change.
We talk about Trust as one of the biggest lessons Monica has and continues to learn through this work, and Monica’s explanation of “personhood” with regards to plants, and thus the legality of the natural world. Monica shares what the “real plant revolution” is and its many implications... plus lots of talk on top issues capturing Monica’s attention: GMOs, Cannabis, and the appropriation of potent medicinal plants on a larger scale.
Stick to the end to hear Monica’s request for your support and how you can help her mission to protect and restore the ecologies of the Earth!
Show Notes
In this episode, we discuss:
How an ethical crisis was the seed that changed the course of Monica’s career and led to her working with plants and writing her book
How being let go from her job, living off of little income and entering more challenging times and emotions ushered her into a deeper journey with plants and her mission to advocate for them
Monica explains “plant blindness” and shares how resistant and scared she was to change
How Trust is one of the biggest lessons Monica has and continues to learn through this work
How Monica communicates with plants and “hears” their messages, and the evolution of her relationship to them
Monica’s explanation of “personhood” with regards to plants, and the origins of the word “person”, the concept of masks and personas, and the problems with anthropomorphizing plants
The legality of the natural world, how plants are agents that have their own interests, and the cloudy legalities around the rights of plants and nature
The wishful thinking of the name Homo sapiens and the false “othering” between humans and nature
The “real plant revolution” and its implications: an evolutionary process into a “new old” human
The importance of Imagination, and the collective point of tension we are experiencing before the bow releases the arrow
The top issues that are capturing Monica’s attention: GMOs, Cannabis, and the decriminalization + appropriation of potent medicinal plants on a larger scale
Monica’s view on GMOs, how she doesn’t believe it’s founded in science and shouldn’t be funded
How we need to change our collective Mind before we are able to change our world
What Monica has received from the plants on how to “change our Mind”, and how it involves the deconstruction of the Self
Monica’s advice for folx midwifing ourselves into a new story and new Mind
Which plant is feeding her wild right now and the beautiful vision of a new grassroots project she received
The importance of sound and what is being discovered thru soundscape ecology and plant bioacoustics

The conversions connection - converting our mind/heart to expressed words, converting thyroid hormones for healthy metabolism
The interconnections in our physical bodies and energy bodies, such as the connection between stomach (solar plexus) and thyroid (throat chakra)
We’re inspired to do a stomach acid “challenge” - ways to support your stomach acid this moon cycle:
Add in 1 tbsp apple cider vinegar to water before meals, lemon to water, pure celery juice, hydrochloric acid supplementation if needed
Blue/aquamarine color related to thyroid/throat chakra:
eat blue and sea-based foods to support the throat!
Foods for thyroid: sea veggies (minerals/iodine), brazil nuts (for selenium)
Herbs for throat: antimicrobial: thyme, sage, rosemary, honey; mucilaginous: aloe vera, marshmallow root, slippery elm, licorice,
Making herbal gargles to use to clear stagnation in throat (energetic + physical) to support the vocal expression of truth; Megan’s recipe: oregon grape, astragalus, garlic
Energetic use of herbs, i.e. Calamus (aka Sweet Flag) - has a signature for the throat (roots look like larynx), has been traditionally used to support the voice, esp for singers in Native American traditions and India/Ayurveda

Love this podcast? Subscribe over on Apple Podcasts, Stitcher, Spotify, Google Play and never miss an episode.
Happy 11/11! In this solo episode, I was inspired to get personal and allow some intuitive sharings to come thru straight from the heart. I speak to what 11:11 means to me and talk about my career journey including things I have not shared publicly before. I talk about what I learned working in “corporate” and in an entrepreneurial setting for 10 years before I jumped ship into my own company, and my take on the “medicine of disorientation” and the unbearable feeling of “not knowing what to do next”.
I also share the biggest takeaway lessons I’ve learned over the past 15 years and what I’ve been up to lately including new & exciting things coming out in 2020! This kind of intuitively led episode was a stretch for me (I like to prepare + plan, even for the Akashic readings!) so I trust there were supportive insights reflected in my own personal journey for ya!

Maris Bergrune is an ancestral lineage healing practitioner, Norse ritual animist, and ritual healer. She helps people become deeply well with their ancestors and access Northern European wisdom traditions and transformational ritual.
Today, Maris and I are talking about ancestral lineage healing, what it is, how Maris got into this work, and why it’s critical to develop a connection to our “well ancestors” for reparation work within our line so we can know what it means to be resourced by our wise and well ancestors.
Maris shares how to get in touch with your helpful ancestors and build healthy connection with them to clarify your unique gifts and give you a sense of belonging in the world. We cover the difference between ancestral lineage work and soul history work, the importance of boundaries and protection in this work and how to breakthrough intuitive blocks when connecting to the Ancestors.
Musical clip at interlude: Ár Var Alda sung by Maris from her collection of Songs from Old Norse Eddic Poetry. You can find this one and more at www.livingvoicemedicine.com

As an Author, Life Coach, Trauma Release Practitioner and Personal Development Teacher Evette Rose strives to support people in their healing journeys. She is the founder of Metaphysical Anatomy and Rapid Growth Healing Technique. Evette is best known for her work in helping people resolve trauma from their past, and freeing them to live successful and fulfilling lives. Evette’s work is drawn from personal experience moving from a difficult past into a well-balanced life and career. She has traveled around the world twice and taught personal development seminars in more than 43 countries and helped thousands of people world wide.

Ep. 91 Liminal Dreaming :: Surfing the Edges of Consciousness with Jennifer Dumpert
If our reality - and hence our life experiences - are shaped by our perception and limitations of our imagination, then what can our dreams teach us about consciousness and our Selves?
In this episode, we’re talking with Jennifer Dumpert, a San Francisco-based writer, lecturer, and consciousness hacker to help us answer this question. She’s the author of the recently released Liminal Dreaming: Exploring Consciousness at the Edges of Sleep. Jennifer teaches the practice of Liminal Dreaming—surfing the edges of consciousness using hypnagogic and hypnopompic dream states.
We discuss liminal dreaming as the doorway between waking and dream consciousness, how it differs from other kinds of dream & sleep states, and the healing benefits of liminal dreaming and yoga nidra being applied globally. We also talk about one of my favorite topics - imagination as a faculty of perception (and perhaps the most important one!) and what’s actually happening in the brain and body when we experience common collective experiences such as sleep paralysis, falling sensations and jerking, and “hallucinations.”
Jennifer also dives into oneirogens - what they are, how they work and how to use them, including herbs, sounds, smells, and technology we can use for enhancing dreams, divination, & healing. Jennifer is the founder of the Oneironauticum, an international organization that explores the phenomenological experience of dreams as a means of experimenting with mind.
This was such a fun and fascinating interview, and I loved how Jennifer wove tons of practical tools and exercises into her book... That’s why I’m excited to announce that we’re doing an Instagram giveaway of Jennifer’s book Liminal Dreaming!
3 lucky winners will receive a free copy of her book - read below to find out how to enter (before it ends this week)!

Ep. 90 The Art of Personal Mythmaking For Healing & Transformation with Janelle Hardy
Have you ever thought about working with your personal story and considering your story as a mythology? Janelle believes that we can heal and transform when we work with our personal mythologies instead of against them. Janelle supports creative, courageous, sensitive women + non-binary people in reclaiming their brilliance, vibrancy and strength via a transformation memoir-writing process called The Art of Personal Mythmaking.
A huge belief of mine is that we have the power to change our stories and that’s directly connected to our health and life experiences in our bodies. The work that Janelle does is navigating people through this personal memoir writing process that leads one through personal transformation.
Janelle also has her own podcast, The Personal Mythmaking Podcast, today she published my episode where we dive into a fairytale that I have loved since a little girl - The Little Mermaid!
Janelle shares her personal story and how she came to develop the Art of Personal Mythmaking process. Janelle discusses what she calls “the great forgetting” - the erasure of where one comes from and shares her exploration of family history of trauma, and discovering the multigenerational healing process through personal mythmaking. We also talk about the benefits of feeling stuck and powerful ways to move through flavors of resistance in all the ways it shows up.

Ep. 88 Woke Womb Work: Healing Generational Trauma & Reclaiming Yoni Power with The Brujas of Brooklyn
We’re speaking with Dr. Griselda Rodriguez-Solomon and Dr. Miguelina Rodriguez, aka The Brujas of Brooklyn. As Afro-Dominican identical twins, raised in Brooklyn, New York, they believe in the power of Spirit to cast spells that aid in collective healing. The Brujas of Brooklyn are healing generational traumas of gendered racism, which women of color often hold in our wombs, or Yonis. Their craft is therefore dedicated to womb-healing, or what they call Woke Womb Work.
In this conversation, we talk about what bruja means to them and the reclamation of this word and way of being. They share how they came into “Woke Womb Work” diving deep into the sacred realms of the Yoni and how it relates to socioeconomic and political events and forces.
The Brujas breakdown for us the disparities within reproductive justice, how intergenerational and transgenerational trauma impacts our genes and health today and how conscious work of healing unravels this injustice.
From bleeding, moon cycles, to Kundalini yoga to twerkshops, we're talking about the elements that go into their work and the practical magic that we can implement into our daily lives to empower us.
The Brujas share what they have gained from this work on a personal level, including the healings and gifts that have unfolded over the years through motherhood, dating and in their work in the classroom as professors.
Dr. Griselda Rodriguez-Solomon (Dr. G.) is a professor, doula and Kundalini yogi. She earned a PhD in Sociology with an emphasis on Gender Studies from Syracuse University. Dr. G. teaches courses throughout the City University of New York (CUNY) related to Racism and Birthing (In) Justice in the US. She is a published author and contributor for Hip Latina Magazine. The home-birth of her sun Talib changed her life forever.
Dr. Miguelina Rodriguez is an unapologetic gentrification critic, author and Urban Studies professor at LaGuardia Community College.
