Solo Episode: OCTOBER :: Akashic Soul Nourishment Reading :: Self-Destruction Thru Other-ing + Salvation Thru Connection

About Monthly Soul Nourishment Readings: These readings are usually filled with metaphor & symbols, so may require a bit of unraveling & might mean something different for each person, so pay attention to what comes up for you as you listen on. Hope they provide value and moments of reflection in your journey.

Heads up: I do a longer intro sharing personal insights and recent events, so if you want to jump straight to the Akashic Reading, it starts at 15:19 time mark.

In this monthly reading, we pierce through a veil and travel to a different world where we’re shown the great unseen war that is happening right now and how “othering” is playing a primary role in a process of self-destruction. We see how our connection to the elements and the unseen world is going to be the bridge that reminds and reconnects us to the aspects of ourselves against which we are waging war.

Tuning into the elements, our senses & pleasure will transport us to a level of awareness that’ll open up doors to a new world. We’re given 2 simple practices to connect to our expanded brain power and languages of the heart for “energetic fluency.”

This reading had an interesting twist at the end after doing some research on a name given... we’re going scifi this month, folx. Enjoy the ride.

Ep. 91 Liminal Dreaming :: Surfing the Edges of Consciousness with Jennifer Dumpert

If our reality - and hence our life experiences - are shaped by our perception and limitations of our imagination, then what can our dreams teach us about consciousness and our Selves?

In this episode, we’re talking with Jennifer Dumpert, a San Francisco-based writer, lecturer, and consciousness hacker to help us answer this question. She’s the author of the recently released Liminal Dreaming: Exploring Consciousness at the Edges of Sleep. Jennifer teaches the practice of Liminal Dreaming—surfing the edges of consciousness using hypnagogic and hypnopompic dream states.

We discuss liminal dreaming as the doorway between waking and dream consciousness, how it differs from other kinds of dream & sleep states, and the healing benefits of liminal dreaming and yoga nidra being applied globally. We also talk about one of my favorite topics - imagination as a faculty of perception (and perhaps the most important one!) and what’s actually happening in the brain and body when we experience common collective experiences such as sleep paralysis, falling sensations and jerking, and “hallucinations.”

Jennifer also dives into oneirogens - what they are, how they work and how to use them, including herbs, sounds, smells, and technology we can use for enhancing dreams, divination, & healing. Jennifer is the founder of the Oneironauticum, an international organization that explores the phenomenological experience of dreams as a means of experimenting with mind.

This was such a fun and fascinating interview, and I loved how Jennifer wove tons of practical tools and exercises into her book... That’s why I’m excited to announce that we’re doing an Instagram giveaway of Jennifer’s book Liminal Dreaming!

3 lucky winners will receive a free copy of her book - read below to find out how to enter (before it ends this week)!

Show Notes

In this episode, we discuss:

  • How Jennifer got into dreamwork and why she’s focusing on “liminal dreaming”

  • The difference between liminal dreaming and other dreams such as REM and lucid dreams

  • Why hypnogogic and hypnopompic states are considered the spaces between and the doorway between waking and dream consciousness

  • The various common collective experiences of these dream states, such as bodily jerks, whispering, hallucinations, sleep paralysis

  • The similarities between liminal dreaming and the psychedelic mind-space, and how liminal dreaming can support people instead of taking psychedelics

  • The healing benefits of liminal dreaming and yoga nidra, and examples of their use throughout the world

  • What is actually happening in the brain during liminal dreaming states (hint: it’s chaotic J), and the different brain waves related to various phases of sleep such as theta, beta, alpha

  • The best exercises and practices for surfing liminal dreaming and mental healing, creativity, and problem solving

  • Imagination as a faculty of perception (and perhaps the most important one!)

  • Whey senses like sight aren’t as reliable as they seem and how “we have to choose what to see”

  • Exploring sleep paralysis and scary dream experiences as an opportunity to address and work with fear

  • What are oneirogens, the various kinds of oneirogens used throughout the world (smells, sounds, herbs, technology), how they work and how to use them

  • How you can join in on the fun with The Oneironauticum – Jennifer’s international dream group that works with oneirogens—any substance, practice, or experience that promotes or enhances dream states. Jennifer says it’s like a worldwide slumber party :)

  • Supportive oneirogens for working with and healing trauma – such as one that the Xhosa people use to put one in touch with ancestors

  • Oneirogens for getting in touch with inner peace: The scent Stargazer lily, rose

  • Jennifer’s best hacks for remembering your dreams and how “attention is the magic sauce”

  • How liminal dreamwork has impacted Jennifer’s life experience opening up her “liminal mind”

Ep. 90 The Art of Personal Mythmaking For Healing & Transformation with Janelle Hardy

Have you ever thought about working with your personal story and considering your story as a mythology? Janelle believes that we can heal and transform when we work with our personal mythologies instead of against them. Janelle supports creative, courageous, sensitive women + non-binary people in reclaiming their brilliance, vibrancy and strength via a transformation memoir-writing process called The Art of Personal Mythmaking.

A huge belief of mine is that we have the power to change our stories and that’s directly connected to our health and life experiences in our bodies. The work that Janelle does is navigating people through this personal memoir writing process that leads one through personal transformation.

Janelle also has her own podcast, The Personal Mythmaking Podcast, today she published my episode where we dive into a fairytale that I have loved since a little girl - The Little Mermaid!

Janelle shares her personal story and how she came to develop the Art of Personal Mythmaking process. Janelle discusses what she calls “the great forgetting” - the erasure of where one comes from and shares her exploration of family history of trauma, and discovering the multigenerational healing process through personal mythmaking. We also talk about the benefits of feeling stuck and powerful ways to move through flavors of resistance in all the ways it shows up.

Show Notes

In this episode, we discuss:

  • Janelle’s personal story

  • The art of personal myth making

  • Incorporating body, creativity, and fairytale

  • Grieving the loss of family history, language, culture, and meaning - what Janelle calls “the great forgetting,” the erasure of where one comes from

  • Janelle’s exploration of family history of trauma including addiction and abuse, and multigenerational healing processes

  • The internal silencing that occurs from this trauma and patriarchal conditionings, and the dynamic of denying the embodied self

  • Pain as a great motivator and how some of the ways that Janelle intuitively started seeking healing and shift were catalyzed by pain

  • Why creative self expression and reconnecting with body are exceptionally important

  • How language is critical in understanding our life experience and options for healing and understand the world

  • What is the “art of personal mythmaking” and how it has the capacity to change the way we understand our life

  • We can create our own mythology that is beautiful and shift the painful one

  • Our body as our only home and using our body as a physical ally

  • The significance of ancient tales, fairy tales, and the value of their existence

  • How to begin your own personal mythmaking and inviting your body into the healing process

  • How we might have pulls and interests in things that are in our lineage or history despite not being in our current life experience

  • The benefits of feeling stuck and powerful ways to move through flavors of resistance in all the ways it shows up (and the most common flavors of resistance!)

  • The power of a memoir writing process

  • The interesting difference that a study found between genders in aqcuiring new skills and perceived “readiness”

  • How overwhelm is connected to a dysregulated nervous system

  • How fiction is a wonderful way Janelle transports herself

Ep. 88 Woke Womb Work: Healing Generational Trauma & Reclaiming Yoni Power with The Brujas of Brooklyn

We’re speaking with Dr. Griselda Rodriguez-Solomon and Dr. Miguelina Rodriguez, aka The Brujas of Brooklyn. As Afro-Dominican identical twins, raised in Brooklyn, New York, they believe in the power of Spirit to cast spells that aid in collective healing. The Brujas of Brooklyn are healing generational traumas of gendered racism, which women of color often hold in our wombs, or Yonis. Their craft is therefore dedicated to womb-healing, or what they call Woke Womb Work.

In this conversation, we talk about what bruja means to them and the reclamation of this word and way of being.  They share how they came into “Woke Womb Work” diving deep into the sacred realms of the Yoni and how it relates to socioeconomic and political events and forces.

The Brujas breakdown for us the disparities within reproductive justice, how intergenerational and transgenerational trauma impacts our genes and health today and how conscious work of healing unravels this injustice.

From bleeding, moon cycles, to Kundalini yoga to twerkshops, we're talking about the elements that go into their work and the practical magic that we can implement into our daily lives to empower us.

The Brujas share what they have gained from this work on a personal level, including the healings and gifts that have unfolded over the years through motherhood, dating and in their work in the classroom as professors.

Dr. Griselda Rodriguez-Solomon (Dr. G.) is a professor, doula and Kundalini yogi. She earned a PhD in Sociology with an emphasis on Gender Studies from Syracuse University. Dr. G. teaches courses throughout the City University of New York (CUNY) related to Racism and Birthing (In) Justice in the US. She is a published author and contributor for Hip Latina Magazine. The home-birth of her sun Talib changed her life forever.

Dr. Miguelina Rodriguez is an unapologetic gentrification critic, author and Urban Studies professor at LaGuardia Community College. She holds a PhD in Urban Planning and Public Policy from Rutgers University. Her dissertation was an ethnographic study on the ways in which first and second-generation Dominican immigrants experience/make sense of gentrification in Washington Heights. Dr. Miguelina Rodriguez thanks her Saturn's Return for shaping her life as a Yoni priestess. Womb Wellness is her life's work.

Show Notes

In this episode, we discuss:

  • How power shifts in their Saturn return pushed them deep into womb work and spiritual awakening

  • What bruja means to them and the reclamation of Yoni power

  • The demonization of brujas and witches, and how their work as social scientists inform their teachings, spiritual practices, and service

  • What is an “Unfuckablewith” woman and how this relates to womb work and the power of a bruja

  • The importance of daily practical magic

  • Woke womb work: how they dove deep into the sacred realms of the womb and how it relates to socioeconomic and political events and forces

  • The Brujas breakdown the disparities within reproductive justice and the roots of trauma in enslavement and patriarchal society

  • How intergenerational and transgenerational trauma impacts our genes and health today and how conscious work of healing unravels this injustice

  • What the Brujas do in their personal and daily lives to take care of their wombs, bodies, and maintain a sense of groundedness and balance

  • How sometimes the most revolutionary thing you can do is take a sacred bath and nourish yourself and the power of trust in generational healing

  • What to do when you feel alone in your healing journey and growth

  • How practicing presence is one of the most important aspects of personal work and why it’s good not to get too caught up in ritual

  • Burnout in the spiritual and healing world… it’s real.

  • How they navigate the traps of growing a business in a capitalist world and stay rooted in intuition

  • What connecting with your cycle, blood, and body can communicate and why the Brujas are passionate about connecting folks to their rhythms and bodies

  • The Brujas walk us through what goes on in their womb workshops and community events, from Kundalini and meditation to Red Tents and “twerkshops” :)

  • The Shame we carry in our bodies and how to release it

Solo Episode: SEPTEMBER :: Akashic Soul Nourishment Reading :: The Great Linear Illusion + Taking Yourself For A Spin

About Monthly Soul Nourishment Readings: These readings are usually filled with metaphor & symbols, so may require a bit of unraveling & might mean something different for each person, so pay attention to what comes up for you as you listen on. Hope they provide value and moments of reflection in your journey.

And we’re back! Kicking it off with the Akashic message for September: It’s time to question the great illusion of the Linear, the stories we’ve been sold, & support the powerful spiralic centrifugal forces within you by taking yourself for a spin. In this season of transition (and fall time in the northern hemisphere), we’re reminded of how everything blossoms into a death and rebirth process - encouraging us to embrace the medicine of letting go. BEING the flow of change versus being a victim of change.

Our guides ask us to question the stories we’ve being sold... Consider how the linear ways of life are holding you back from your own truth. How are they keeping you safe in a tiny box but preventing you from experiencing the fullness of what a spiralic expansive multi-dimensional earth walk can truly provide? THAT is your true nature and path, and the task for this month.

We are given recommendations of practices that will help us navigate this process and support the centrifugal forces within us in order to assimilate all in-formation and stay healthy body, mind, spirit.

I also give updates on what I’ve been up to during break, share a tarot card pull, and address the energetics of grief that are coming up this season. Aaand I’m excited to share about the new and upcoming workshops and offerings - make sure to sign up to the newsletter for updates and first dibs on exclusive offers!

Clean the mind slate, don’t be afraid to enter the void, and “follow the bouncy red ball.” It’s time to claim our rightful place as both drummer and beat follower, setting your own rhythm so that We as a collective can begin to work together in sync and harmony. Can you feel that drum beat?

Ep. 84 The Magical Mundane, Plant Allies As Guides, & Personal Sovereignty with The Botanical Bruja Lola Venado

Don’t overlook the simple act of introducing yourself and asking for blessings... the spirits and ancestors are always ready to hear us.. We just have to speak.” ~ Lola Venado

We’re speaking with Lola Venado, The Botanical Bruja™, a folk herbalist, energy worker, kitchen witch, writer, speaker, and community gatherer. Lola’s work and creation as The Botanical Bruja™ and her business Xantico House inspire us to live more fully in the present moment, remember our own medicine, and to take respite in the little things.. Remember that these connections to the mundane are just as magical and special as the grander things in life.

In this conversation, Lola shares what led her to the creation of The Botanical Bruja™ and Xantico House, and why reclaiming this term bruja (“witch”) is an important part of honoring her lineage and medicine path.

She shares how a health crisis 5 years ago snapped her back into her plant path & magic roots, how Lola navigated a large Mexican family dynamic as a highly sensitive person, and the remarkable journey she is taking, stepping deep into trust and relationship with a plant ally and new land... and it all started from a dream she had one night.

Lola offers recommendations for people making big moves and feeling ungrounded in doing so, and how to establish connection with the land and cultivate a relationship with Magic in the mundane. Lola naturally demonstrates the power of plática - or creating space for discussion and connection around our daily lives so that we can share our stories... because when we can share and listen to stories, not only can healing occur, but it provides inspiration to pursue one’s own medicine path and sacred journey in life.

Show Notes

In this episode, we discuss:

  • How time in the kitchen was a time of love connection and peace growing up, and how it was a sanctuary within her tumultuous relationship between Lola and her mother

  • How Lola’s mom’s DIY preference for potions, products, and remedios over store-bought items had an impact on Lola’s creation of The Botanical Bruja and Xantico House

  • Why Lola hates making the distinction between food and medicine

  • How plants have always been in Lola’s life, why bruja is still not an acceptable term in her abuela’s eyes, and how she is honoring and reclaiming her mother’s legacy and lineage of this path and bloodline

  • How chemical sensitivities and a health crisis led Lola to her plant medicine path, magical roots, and business

  • How Lola navigated a large Mexican family dynamic as a highly sensitive person

  • How the puzzle pieces begin to fall into place as you start to walk your path

  • Lola’s take on the Energy of The Fool in the tarot - starting at zero, naive but open to possibility

  • How this energy brought Lola to her most recent big move - which started with a dream and a connection to a plant

  • Something that is really important to Lola in her work is preaching personal sovereignty, reconnecting us back to our innate wisdom

  • Lola’s view on relationships, and how she sees beauty within all her relationships, even the shitty ones

  • Takes us on a journey of her dream with ocotillo in the closet and the messages she followed

  • Lola’s surprising discoveries about ocotillo and the connections to her main ancestral lands/ origin of her own maternal lineage in the desserts of Mexico as well as southern Arizona

  • How the yaqui/yoeme tribe is the ancestral line of her ancestral maternal lineage located in Tucson where she now lives

  • How following her curiosity and connection to plants has been answering the call

  • Lola offers recommendations for people making big moves and feeling ungrounded

  • Establishing connection with the land, creating ritual around introducing oneself to land, asking for blessings, getting intimate with the land and soil

  • How to cultivate a relationship with Magic in the mundane based on reverence and connection

  • The power of a plática and how you can expect a plática along with your remedy when working with Lola

Ep. 81 Indigenous Right Relationship Building & Unspoken Truths Living Through Us with Pulxaneeks

Pulxaneeks.jpg

Having just observed 4th of July, aka Independence Day in the US, this interview with Pulxaneeks (Pul-ha-neeks), founder of Heart to Heart Indigenous Relations Consultation is both timely and meaningful. Pulxaneeks’ work supporting us in remembering these kinds of connections, that we belong to Mother Earth, and what it means to be in right relationship with Mother Earth as well as with Indigenous people, is critical and important to highlight as it relates to all of these seemingly unrelated areas such as health.

In this interview, we explore her work in Indigenous Allyship Training, whole-hearted understanding of what it means to be in right relationship with Indigenous peoples & what right use of privilege is & how to cultivate it. We talk about the power of asking heart-based questions and how many of us are waking up to the displaced and unprocessed grief that many of us carry from our own lineages.

Pulxaneeks reminds us that we’ve each been colonized at some point in our lineage, and the long term impact of this on our life experience and relationships. She shares how this affects being in Right Relationship with Indigenous People  and what’s at the heart of cultural appropriation. This conversation extends far beyond this hour-long dialogue, starting with a deep intake process that allowed me to reflect on these issues within my own life experience, and continues to provoke questions and awareness long after. I hope it inspires helpful reflections for you!

Pulxaneeks (Pul-ha-neeks) is from the Eagle Clan of the Haysla First Nation located on the northwest coast of the place now called Canada.

Her path of being a group facilitator, program designer & event producer was sparked 19 years ago & has been applied in a wide diversity of ways throughout her life.

Her background includes cultural based youth outreach with First Nations youth who are considered ‘high risk’, Elder Care & Child Care.

Her passion for contributing to the future generations has made her a community oriented entrepreneur & visionary of next paradigm change. This has resulted in her most recent development called “Heart to Heart - Indigenous Relations Consultation”, which is based entirely on the unique understanding that has come from being exposed to both Indigenous & Settler decent cultures.

Pulxaneeks is a living, loving result of the coastal Indigenous village that raised her & all that survived in the lineage she was born to. She honours the Elders, Mentors and huge family whose love she is a living result of and the Ancestors whose strength and resilience is flowing through her veins.

Show Notes

In this episode, we discuss:

  • How Pulxaneeks’ work is rooted in her roots

  • The enlightening intake process Pulxaneeks asks all those with whom she’ll work with, and the power of asking questions

  • How grief showed up for me as I engaged Pulxaneeks’ questions related to my own ancestors

  • How many of us are waking up to the displaced and unprocessed grief that many of us carry from our own lineages

  • What does it mean to be “in right relationship” with indigenous peoples and the land

  • Starting out with ancestry and intergenerational trauma and how not all cultures have a place to bring the grief and trauma, allowing it to impact everything

  • Considering how we have ALL been colonized in some way within our own lineages, and looking at the trauma that our own ancestors have carried over generations

  • Pulxaneeks’ belief that things will come up when it’s time and ready, and the importance of having silence

  • Her advice to those that are not connected to their lineage or where/whom they come from

  • How the trauma that you are experiencing in your current life is related to your lineage’s trauma

  • How to recognize privelege, what is right use of privlege and alleviating the shame of having it

  • Whole-hearted understanding of what it means to be in right relationship with Indigenous peoples

  • What’s at the heart of cultural appropriation

  • Call out culture and the need for community

  • The importance of being willing to be called out and do the work

  • Why having a basic understanding of trauma and conscious communication is critical when engaging in ancestry work and Indigenous relationship building

  • Pulxaneeks’ personal story and the helpful practices and therapies that helped her with her own trauma

  • Her advice to devote a time at least twice a month to become “timeless together” and to hear one another deeply and fully

Solo Episode: July 2019 :: Akashic Soul Nourishment Reading :: Somatic Remembrance, Course Corrections, The Great Conductor

About Monthly Soul Nourishment Readings: These readings are usually filled with metaphor & symbols, so may require a bit of unraveling & might mean something different for each person, so pay attention to what comes up for you as you listen on. Hope they provide value and moments of reflection in your journey.

The message for July is Somatic Remembrance, Course Corrections, Water as the Great Conductor. The Goddess Diana guides us through the enchanted forest and the vasculature of Gaia... her beating heart, the flow of life force. We are cellular components of the greater soma that is Gaia, and it is our duty to remember our purpose and enact our gifts. We are invited into an intention experiment, provided ways of “course correcting” our life experiences and direction, and shown the importance of water as the great conductor.

A tarot card reading at the end pulls it all together, reminding us that there are no shortcuts in life and manifestation, only pivots and smart moves.

Ep. 76 Farming While Black: Restoring Sacred and Just Relationship with the Land & One Another with Leah Penniman

The soil stewards of generations past recognized that healthy soil is not only imperative for our food security—it is also foundational for our cultural and emotional well-being.” ~ Leah Penniman

In this episode, we are speaking with Leah Penniman of Soul Fire Farm. You’ll experience her pioneering energy that supports our collective re-memberance of our sacred connection to land and the ways we can begin to unravel and heal the injustices of the imposed systems as a community.

Leah’s work with Soul Fire Farm is to increase farmland stewardship by people of color, promote equity in food access, and train the next generation of activist farmers.

Her book Farming While Black, is the first comprehensive manual for African-heritage people ready to reclaim their rightful place of dignified agency in the food system, with a concise “how-to” for all aspects of small-scale farming. But it’s not just Is a compendium of “how-tos” for small scale farming... it’s rich with historical context and weaving in the pragmatic with spirituality, soil ecology, planning, tools, plant medicine, healing trauma, and movement building. Leah breaks it all down for us in this episode!

Show Notes

In this episode, we discuss:

  • How Leah found a comrade in nature and cultivated a relationship that led to farming as a teenager

  • As a young person worked on many farms and realized that the sustainable agriculture world was super “white” and how she didn’t feel represented

  • How Leah found a mentor in Karen Washington Rise & Root Farm

  • How the story we’ve been told about farming is inaccurate and incomplete

  • Leah breaks down the external barriers and the history of exile, discrimination, violence and denigration of black people and forced disconnection from land

  • The importance of the return of black and brown people to the land and the need to fix land injustice

  • What are reparations and how can people give back and redistribute access and resources

  • How 98% of land is owned by white people and there is a 16:1 wealth gap between white folks and black folks at birth, the history of dispossession

  • Soul Fire Farm’s Action guide based on voices of black and indigenous people of color

Resonant art of C# by Louviere and Vanessa - Resonantia Images

Statement from the artists: “Each photograph was made by creating a frequency on a home made spectrograph representing one of the 12 notes in music. The images were archivally printed on kozo paper. Hand made strechers were built to hold the dibond which was primed and covered in gold leaf. The image was laid down over the gold and flooded with resin. Once dry, the piece is wet sanded to remove all reflections then a second pass of resin and polish was hand applied to specific parts of the piece.”

Solo Episode: June 2019 :: Akashic Soul Nourishment Reading :: Cosmic Rhythm, Breaking Sound Barriers, and Tuning Into Miracles

The message for June is all about rhythm and attunement. It’s time to get outside, shower in the healing cosmic light, and tune your instrument. Ready to break through limitations and your “sound barrier”? This month we’re guided by a collective of voices, with the loving sternness of big mama earth and those that can see the power within us that we, ourselves, may be blind to...

A word about the artwork of this post - I found this after some research of C# since that was the specific note that was mentioned in our reading. Remarkably, the sound of C# (thought to be the closest to the primordial sound of Ohm) renders a vibrational pattern that looks like a tree encircled by a spiralic ouroborus snake!
